Drop zone commander battle !

Last night my friend and I broke out our drop zone commander armies . I've been building and painting my UCM army since the game first came out but hadn't played too much . Only to not to many players in my local area . My friend was fielding his new resistance army . I kept joking around about when will it be painted . But with a future child coming next month I belive it will be a bit . Great game . Just picked up the new book . This game is great , it plays well . Awesome models that are easy to paint . The card board city terrain is excellent . It's cheap and sets up easy . It looks great while playing too , very rare to see wargaming tables with very dense buildings due to the expense . We started off with a standard mission from the original book . Game went well with a Lot of carnage . Quickly I sexed two objectives and escaped by condor drop ship . The rest of the game I just tried to prevent the resistance from getting there objectives .my albatross heavy drop ship got shot down by some heavy technicals with anti aircraft guns which I just underestimated . A lot of my mistakes were from not knowing the new armies . I underestimated this scrappy rag tag force . Big mistake . I ended up pulling out a win but earned a new respect for the resiteance army . My only down was the organization of the rule book is bad . It's hard to locate lots of rules etc , but down the road I can see the book being improved . Besides that if you haven't tried drop zone commander , gets your hands on the starter box set . Great game a must for any one wanting a nice size scifi engagement game .

Sorry for the late blog updates but I've been working a lot . But In between work and family I've been putting paint to model ;)  . First off I've finished a power loader sentinel and two imperial knights for warhammer 40k for my friend . I recently finished building and painting some other minatures for flames of war , for a new game ( all quiet on the martain front ) also I'm working on more Napoleonics minatures , for black powder . Also I'm finishing up my united colonies of man drop zone commander army . Here's several pics of my latest projects . Enjoy till next time

Civil war battle using black powder rules

The other day me and my friend got to fight a meeting engagement with two of my civil war armies I have been working on . Great game . We used warlord games Black Powder rules . They work great . Easy to use rules for big games . We had a blast . Some hairy moments when the bulk of the confederate army came on line with the union army . Some great moments and a lot of bad dice rolling dragged the battle into a slug fest . Finally the union regiments began to break and run . Ultimately the union forces were forced to retreat from the plantation they had been ordered to hold . Great time . Great time . Will add more to my armies and play again soon . Enjoy the pics

Bolt action demos at Brothers Grim games and Hobbies

The other day I went down to my local FLAGS and ran some games of warlord games WW 2 Bolt Action . I brought two armies about 1500 units each . An US and German army , along with some of my terrain . We had some great games . Every one playing had a blast and showed interest in buying there own armies and to play bolt action more . Great game with easy to learn rules , that keep the game moving . It has random unit activation which keeps you guessing on how to move your forces . We'll till next time enjoy the pics

Flames of war fate of a nation bat rep !

So my buddy and I , decided to break out our Arab Israeli war armies for flames of war supplement . Which appeared as a free army book with last years warhammer illustrated august issue . By the way a great magazine . I was fielding my Israeli tank company and my friend fielded his massive Egyptian tank company . Full of sorts of Russian armor . With our mission rolled up ( a standard meeting engagement ) we put down our objectives deployed , and away we went ! The game began with  my Israeli tanks staying at long range ( Israeli tank crews reroll miss to hit rolls  at ranges over 16 inches ) and kept firing my main tank guns into the incoming hordes of Egyptian tanks . I used a good mix of tanks . On my left flank to macach 3 protected my mechanized infantry plt . These were my objective seizing units which would try to flank on the left to the objective and hopefully disembark ground troops on the objective . In the middle of my line I placed my co and two m51 and m50 Sherman plts in the cover of the few buildings in the center of the table . To give them a little more protection due to there weak armor . My last tank plt was three centurions which held my right flank . Which was completely open . Perfect for their long range powerful main guns . The reason I put them there , was due to my opponent putting two plts of his most formittal tanks . The t54 . For a surprise I bought an Israeli fighter with priority air ( I bought it with out my opponent knowing painted it up , decaled it , and sprung it on my opponent in the second phase ) it was cool surprising him :) . Actually the fighter was more of an annoyance . it was never really able to break through all the anti aircraft fire from all those tanks pintal mounted machine guns . But it was another level of threat that my buddy had to worry about .the game pretty much went according to plan with my Israeli tanks scoring lots of kills . Stopping most of the Egyptian tanks . As the game started to run out of game turns I began to move up . My 2 machach 3 tanks and infantry filled half tracks made a run for the left side objective . The rest of my tanks now began to take casualties as the ran into the remants of the Egyptian tanks. Egyptian infantry anti tank missle teams were also able to penetrate and take out a Sherman coming up a road . Very bloody indeed .finally the path to one of my objective was open and almost to grasp . The Egyptians army fell below half and was forced to make a company morale . With them being conscripts they broke and withdraw . A win for the Israelis . Great game and a lot of fun . The last time we played I was over run and swamped by the Egyptians and lost terrorably . I learned from my mistakes and was able to pull a win in this battle . Great game and expansion . I will play flames of war in any flavor it comes out in . Also I'm a big fan of there veitnam expansion and have two armies for that as we'll . Looking foward there world war 1 expansion free in next months august wargames illustrated issue .
